Grill Love

I love our grill. Love it love it love it. Cooking couldn't be any easier, or faster, especially now that I'm on a quest to lighten up a bit. Boiled chicken breast just sounds nasty, but grilled chicken breast sounds soooo much better, dontcha think?

My summer shorts are barely making it up my butt - I'm guessing that my undisciplined eating supplemented by a steady stream of beer and ice cream don't help. Combine that with pathetic mileage in June, I really shouldn't have been shocked when my scale registered an additional 10 pounds.

Soooo I'm writing everything down that I eat. Trying to, anyway. I hadn't realized how often I eat. I'm an incessant snacker, & I think I spend most of my waking hours munching on something. Now I just have to keep my munchies on the healthier side. Baby carrots, anyone?

I've been trying hard to get more veggies into this body, primarily in the form of the green monster shakes. "Monster" doesn't even begin to describe it. I know it's good for me, but blechityblechblechblech.

I got a fantastic swim in this morning after work. I think I'm finally getting a routine down. The local swim team takes up the lanes until 8:30am, so as long as I leave work by 8:00am, I can get to the pool on time to stand at the top of my chosen lane & give these kids a hairy eyeball until they hurry up & get all their crap off my lane already.

Today, I had to circle swim with 2 others for most of the time, but we were all at the same lovely slow pace - it worked out pretty well. I didn't feel any pressure of someone bearing down on me, but it kept my pace steady. At 9am though, we go down from 4 lanes to 2 because of swim lessons. As I neared the end of my lap, I was a little startled to see two more pairs of legs standing there. That brought our lane total up to FIVE. I called it quits at that point.

Encouraged by some pain-free running, may I present this fall's training plan...

No, it's not FIRST. And yes, it looks very familiar. It's based off the awesome plan that Lindsay had put together. I had fantastic results with it the first time, so I just bumped up the paces a little but kept most everything else the same.

Let me leave you with this pic - it was my reward for getting up at 4:45am for a run. Enjoy!

First!!!

That is a beautiful shot of the sunrise. Later this week I get two shots of sunrises (Sat & Sun). I hope they are as pretty!

Lane sharing stinks. I have this new strategy when I finally get the lane to myself I occasionally try to check to see if someone is eyeing my lane. If someone is I start spazzing out and spraying water all over as though I am about to do the butterfly or else have some uncontrollable spasm disorder.

Good luck with your training!

Is this training plan for the Richmond marathon? Richmond is alot of fun and only has a few "dead" sections. Most of the way the town is out in force (many folks enjoying a variety of tasty drinks..mimosa's, screwdrivers, sangria, bloody marys, beer...) It's good times!

Man! Awesome pic. Where is this? I am landlocked in CO.

Ick. You can boil chicken? That doesn't sound very good at all and reminds me of the boiled bacon that walks off the plate in 'Better off dead.'

Interesting plan. I might copy some of this...

That photo is beautiful, but it would take a lot more than a sunrise to get me up at 4:45. Good for you!

It's amazing how easily those pounds will sneak on, isn't it? Why can't they just sneak OFF once in a while?!

Gorgeous pic!

I am a terrible snacker too. I have been trying to just done one morning snack and one afternoon snack...along with 3 small meals. Everytime I stop thinking about it, I find myself eating something...like a tootsie roll...I should try switching to baby carrots too. :)

All we do in the summer is grill. It's the best thing EVAH. We grill up tons of veggies too. I love grilled asparagus. I don't love the asparagus pee afterwards.

Good luck on the beer and ice cream cut back. I always struggle with that one. But wine, in the place of beer. I cut it to weekends during training.

If you like watermelon, I discovered last year how full it can make you feel ... and it's much better to be full of watermelon than, say, beer.

I noticed in your plan, you have 2 1/2's, but no marathon? I thought you were going to run one?

Circle swimming is the worst. Glad those you had to share the lane with were at about the same pace. I am lucky that since I am at the pool so early I get a lane to myself.

Oh, and grilling is so good, easy and I love that there is little to clean up!

I love green shakes/smoothies/what-have-you! What goes into your to make it green? Mine has kale. Kale, bananas, yogurt, soy milk, and maybe some strawberries or blueberries. I call it "green slime," but it's delicious. A glass of that in the morning and I'm all set!

Chicken tits on the grill ARE the best!
Love the pic-working second shift, I get to see the sunset from our 9th floor of the hospital and it's just as awesome.

Great pic!

What marathon are you running (I must have missed it!)?

good job getting a swim and a run in! i love my grill too. see if you can find a brine to let the chicken soak in all day before you grill it for dinner. adds a whole new level of moisture to the breast. i've been digging brines lately.

It must be the time of year! I am feeling just like you and finally working on a training plan for fall. Last week I was really good about writing down all my food intake and then the last 3 days I felt like my 'full button' broke and I couldn't eat enough! It sure is frustrating!

Great job with the swimming. I'm trying to get back in the swing of swimming regularly and I'm struggling with that too.... You have more motivation than I do!

Your training plan looks great!

I've been watching my scale creep up for months now and I'm just watching, not changing. I need to get back on track!!

Great picture. Must have been a beautiful run!

I've been trying to do the food journal thing too. I usually don't write down the bad stuff because I'm ashamed of it, so you can see how much good that does! :)

What a beautiful sunrise!

Try to stick with the monster shakes. I've found that I have to use a pretty tart/powerful juice to cut the veggie taste. Pomagranate juice or asai berry juice is the best. Good luck.

AUGH! Can you please start calling me in the morning and telling me it's time to run?! I can't seem to get my booty out of bed no matter how hard I try! But that sunrise is gorgeous. And your plan looks fantastic! Enjoy the journey.

that is a gorgeous pic! definitely one of the perks to pulling yourself out of bed at such an early hour.

love that you liked the basic structure of the plan and are tweaking it some more! i feel so special :)

feel free to send your leftover m&m's my way!

Mmm, beer and ice cream! You know (or maybe you don't) Buckeye Outdoors has a space where you can list everything you eat & include nutrition info. Just a thought. Nice pic!

I can't remember the last time I saw the sun rise (I'm sure it involved one of my boys as a newborn).

I like that training plan. I may just have to borrow it. ;o) Of course, I need to figure out the next marathon first.

Ah...the sunrise! I just can't get enough of it.

Awesome training plan. Yay on pain-free running!

Absolutely beautiful picture! That is why we get out there and do what we do while other people are still sleeping.

Best of luck with the training and take care of yourself.

Perty photo.

I'm liking your training plan. I should get around to making one of those for myself. But then that means I have to follow it. Meh, can't be bothered right now.

Mashed veggies formed to a shake? Puke. Might as well just mainline them (remember to cook them on a spoon or over a coffee can first.) Better just to eat them how they are, I think.

I love that sunrise pic; I'll admit that seeing the sunrise is at least 33% of why I've liked runing early in the morning lately.

is there anything as lovely as an organized training plan? i did wrote out 3 weeks of my plan on a piece of paper at work just so i could stare at it lovingly. good luck with the food diary--i hear that's the key. i cheat and leave off alcohol.

I agree about green monsters...people say they taste good, but I find myself chugging them to just get them down when I have the courage to make them.

wooo looks like a great plan :)
